I think the difference is subtle, but different.

eCommerce has to do with online shopping, merchandising, checkouts, credit card processing to enable the "online retail" of products.

eBusiness is more doing business online, which probably includes eCommerce, but does also include many other things. eBusiness is doing business online. Examples might be big consulting companies, social networking companies, or even a local restaurant’s online menu that is not eCommerce enabled.

So the differences:

1.) eBusiness does not specifically "retail products" online
2.) eBusiness does not specifically "take credit cards" online
3.) eBusiness does not specifically "ship physical items"

However, eBusiness can also be extended to mean these things, but more specifically are a part of eCommerce instead.

Other points that come to mind too...

4.) eBusiness does not always have an end customer
5.) eBusiness can incorporate any fact of making money online, not just shopping related.

While both terms imply 'for-proft', ebusiness is a broader term that encompasses ecommerce and more.

ebusiness includes any aspect a companies' web operations - web apps, intranets, extranets, etc.

ebusiness includes cost reduction initiatives that companies do. For instance, a web site might host automated applications such as package tracking or FAQ databases, among many others. These automated applications lower costs by reducing customer service calls.

ebusiness includes customer retention. Rewards programs and Frequent Flier Accounts let users manage their own account, provide discounts to members, and help keep the brand in front of the user.

ecommerce is not focused on customer retention, lowering costs, etc. Ecommerce is only focused on selling product online.
