Can I claim utilities for home office?

I work from home and I was told that I could claim a percentage of the utility bills proportionate to the square footage of my office what I dont know is can I claim it if one of the bills is not in my name. Even though I am the one that pays them.

Well, technically if you were to get audited, that could get sticky. If you wrote checks for them and had all of the utilities bills you should be fine. What you do is lets say your home office is 10% of your living space, you can deduct 10% of your utility bill. It adds up.
