Gift cards as awards...are they taxable?

If i were to give employees a $25 gift card as an award...are they part of the employees income? how are they taxed?

My husbands employer does this exact thing because it is not taxable. That is nice of you to think of your employees this time of year.

I'm not 100% sure, but because they are not cash earnings paid through payroll, it may be considered just a gift. It also might depend on if you are talking 5 employees or 1,000 employees. That would be a good question for your accountant.

At my job anything over 50 dollars is taxed. 25dollars should be tax free!
