I'm starting a new business and would like to register the name, but as an LLC. What should be my first step?

I have a business already, but am not what the best way is to start a new one. I need to figure out what order to do the following steps in. For my first business I was a sole proprietor first, then transferred over to an LLC a year later. With this business, I want it to be an LLC from the start.

1. Register for an EIN number
2. File LLC paperwork
3. Register trade name with the secretary of state (I checked and the name is available.)

Thanks!

First, file the LLC paperwork with your State Secretary of State's office. Most times you can do that online. Once you have that, you apply for the EIN via the IRS. Again, you can do that online. When you file the paperwork to start the LLC with the Secretary of State, that's when you'll check against the database to make sure the name is available and once you file, you'll be good to go. No other paperwork needed unless you want to file for a trademark, which honestly, you probably don't need unless you are selling the next great gadget. Good luck.
