There are so many options out there now that just did not exist before the internet found it's way into everyone's homes. I'm a web designer and one thing that I love is knowing that you can do it anywhere in the world that has an internet connection!
Within the whole web world, there's lots of things that you can learn. If you are design savy, then you can get photoshop and learn how to design. If you aren't great at design, but you are analytical, try being a developer or a programmer.
When I used to do freelance, I probably only met 1/4 of my clients face to face. Eveything else can be done via email, phone calls and video conferencing.
One thing that might encourage you is that no matter what your background is, computer books are amazing and you can teach yourself anything. Only a handful of my friends that work with computers actually went to school for it (I myself have a degree in psychology), so you can see it's something you can teach yourself WITHOUT going back to deans and exams.
I hope that helps - I have a friend who majored in art history who is a php programmer looking to move to Turks and Caocous and my cousin is a web designer that works in Puerto Rico :)
Good luck!
