Online timesheets not working for offsite workers

I work offsite at our clients international building. Our main headquarters is across town and the company I work for uses an online timesheet for everyone. We have to post our hours daily, at the end of the week submit the totals.

Since redoing their site the online timesheet does not work for offsite workers because of firewall issues. This has been going on since Novemeber 1st.

So now they are having us put in our times from home and recently were upset with offsite workers because they failed an inspection due to an offsite employee not posting daily.

Should I be required to do work related responsibility from home if I'm not getting paid to do so. Also because I can't clock out at work should my company pay me for the drive time home?

So is the server that you clock in and out of physically located inside your main corporate headquarters or is it at a hosting company. how is it you can't log into this server at "work" but you can at home. Do you have some sort of VPN you have to log into at home to get to this server to post your hours?

I could see that argument going either way. Yes you should post your hours daily at work. And doing so is part of the daily routine. By posting the daily hours when you get home, it may not happen until an hour or even later if you go out after work, and by then you may forget or don't have the hours you worked in front of you.

I don't think that you should get paid to report your hours at home. I think you need to work with your company and figure out a way that you CAN report your hours from work like you are supposed too.

We have been complaining since nov. 1st for them to get this fixed. The clients building blocks the timesheet area because of the firewall. At home we don't have the same restrictions. That is the only difference. I do not know exactly where the timesheet page resides wether its on a hosting services server or at a home office server. We didn't create the website though, it was an outside company.

Consider that extra pay driving home compensation for having to sign out at home. I agree with you that system does not work! What happens if god fobid you don't go straight home after work. There are TONS of online collaberation sites out that that involve a time-sheet sort of system. I'll look for the links, but if you go to www.go2web20.net and click on the collaboration tag in the top dropdown.

I think a better way if you can't log into the system because of a firewall issue and you can't VPN in, they should give you paper timesheet to track your hours and once a week you or your manager can login to the system and input your answers.

Perhaps you need to go to the client you work for, and demand that they open their firewall to this one page or section of this site.
