The right to rufuse business.

My boyfriend and I went to the movies. During the movie he was injured, the set broke. So instead of both parties getting lawyers and going through the whole thing. The owner offered him money which he took, and signed papers saying the matter has been resolved. While at the bank the owner said that we can know longer come to his movie theater. Nor my boyfriend or myself. Even though he gave us twenty free passes. An I was wondering can he refuse business to me and my boyfriend just because he got hurt.

It's against federal and state laws because of the Federal Civil Rights Act to refuse business to someone on the basis of race, religion, national origin and they can't refuse service to you for a disability either, but they do reserve the right to refuse service for legitimate purposes.

My guess is that if it was truly an accident that he doesn't want you telling other people about it. If it's something you are baffled about, maybe you can simply ask him, but he does have the right to refuse service to anyone for legitimate purposes, what those are a judge would have to decide.

He can refuse your business if you had issues with him and his business and from what you posted you did.I'm guessing the reason he gave you the free passes was to keep you quiet and get you out of there. I would suggest going to another theatre but if you really want to keep going there try talking to him. You could also bring up the injury. If you never sign a settlement letter, you still have a case if he hasnt resolved your issues with him. Maybe even notify the Better Business Bureau
