Trademarking a name

I would like to start an event management company in Arizona called Details. The full name would be Details Event Management Solutions. I checked online and there is a company in another state called Details Special Events providing similar services. Since we are not operating in the same state, is it okay to use this name? And, is it necessary to get a federal trademark when just operating in one state? Can I just register the trade name in the state of Arizona?

From what I've seen of Details Special Events, their name is not trademarked.

As long as they are not registered in your State, you can start a company with that name. No, usually it's not worth filing for a trademark and chances are you wouldn't get it on the name anyway. You could create a unique logo and copyright it.

Awesome. This is exactly what I needed to know. Figured it wouldn't be a problem just as long we're not in the same state. In fact, there are a lot of Details Events companies around the US. So doesn't seem to be that big of an issue. These are all small businesses anyway.

Thank you!
