What is considered full time employment in Washington State? In other words, how many hours do you have to work to be considered a full time employee?

You can't "make" an employee an exempt classified employee. It is determined on criteria established by the federal government and the state government. There are a few categories for exemption: Executive, Administrative, Professional, Computer and Outside Sales. Within these categories there are levels of responsibilities, types of tasks, decision making authority, level of pay and other. It starts with an accurate job description including % of time spent in each area of job functions, then ends with a careful review and analysis. it would be good to do some serious research OR use an HR professional. If you have an employee classified as an exempt employee and they are legally not, you may be violating labor laws and could be subject to all kinds of trouble: investigation of all employee's classification, time records which could lead to back pay, fines, legal fees and sleepless nights.
