Are lunch periods mandatory by law?

We have warehouse personnel who sometimes due to customer demand skip their lunch and work through their scheduled 30 minute period. They are paid for working but end up not taking a lunch period during their 8 hour shift Is this illegal?

Neither federal nor state laws require employers to provide breaks to employees age 16 or older. Mandatory break laws only apply to children under the age of 16. Breaks and lunch periods are considered benefits and remain at the discretion of the employer. It is up to the employee if he wishes to take the lunch break.
