Can a company legally withhold a paycheck because of failing an alcohol test?

While operating a piece of heavy equipment, I accidentally hit a live gas line. I was taken to a clinic for a blood alcohol test and failed the test. I was fired, but was told that I would not get my paycheck for the week that I worked before the accident. Without my last paycheck, I am in danger of loosing my apartment, because my rent is due next week and I do not have any other means of paying it. I was advised that the company cannot do this legally and am seeking advice. Can the company legally withhold my last paycheck?
