Does the glass of storefront needs to be dual pane?

I am remodeling a commercial building. after getting bids from glass companies, i was told that the storefront (doors and windows) needs to be dual-pane. per low-E maybe it is, but is it the code?

They are probably refering to a safty glass and as far as it being code i would check with the city to make sure or you may have to redo it

I think what you are being told is that it has to be 2 pices laminated together. Ido know that it has to be stamped TEMPERED. That is uniform building code for any glass near a walkway or an area of tripping , etc. The primary concern is that no accidently falls thru it.

I've never seen it be code plate glass single pane is acceptable, but I don't know where you are. But really single pane is only a good idea if you already have plate glass, or if you need laminated plate glass for security/safety reasons. However there are minimums of thickness and its probably cheaper and better to go with double pane glass.
