Dry wall texture odor

During our home renovation, we had the popcorn ceilings removed and the old texture and ceiling floated twice for a new texture to be applied without an odor problem. After the final knockdown texture was applied, that evening pur home began to smell like very strong organic fertilizer. Two days now and still unbearable. Whats going on? What do we do, We haven't had a good response from the contractor as of yet. Is it harmful to breathe these fumes?
