When you have to raise your forks over a secure platform in order to change your battery what are the guide lines

In order for me to change my battery, due to the objects in my way I had to raise my forks with pallet. While doung this I made sure the pallet was sucure by resting it on a platform. There were no batteries that were charged so I had to leave the lift as is, could not have lowered the forks without power even if I was able to back it up aways. What safety issues were not met the forks were up but they were braced and secure to prevent falling and it was in an area that was imposible for anyone to walk under the forks.
