Word of mouth is probably your best bet. If you know someone that has had some similar work done, you can always ask them who they went with, and they will let you know if they liked them or not.

Also, you can search online to see reviews of different companies or individuals.

Hi,
I suggest visit a few new home construction sites. Bring an English-Spanish dictionary with you. And to save time, write a few questions in Spanish down beforehand. Hope that helps. Cheers.

Okay there are alot of scames out there as the others have stated but there are honest hard working men out there also the BBB is good but if you want my advice TEST THEM unscrew a outside light bulb your front porch or back porch (outside) dont let them in your home ask if they give free estatements first tell them you think it maybe the wiring if they show up and screw in the bulb you just might have a honest one if they show up and say you need to rewire the home tell them no thank you and it also helps to check there past work if they are good they will be happy to show you there past work a small test of how honest someone is will go a long way unscrew the light ask for a free estament( and dont let them in your home) and see if they pass the test good luck !

It depends on how much you are prepaired to pay, under or over the "table". I found the best referance with my favorite Real Estate advisor. I myself have gotten much work this way.

Besides word of mouth and listings via the net or newspapers you will find it helpful to ask someone at your local hardware store or home center. You will be suprised to find that even though it may be uncomfortable asking at first it will get easier in time. In the big store giants like Lowes and Home Depot just walk up to the service desk or someone in the department of your need... Lets say hardware if you need shelves or if you need your locks changed or the plumbing department if you need your water heater fixed. In addition usually the smaller stores will have a bulletin board. Then of course you can always learn to fix it yourself. That's what we are here for... :-) Sandy

Word of mouth from a friend, neighbor, or the local newspaper is normally where a handyman will post his name and telephone number with some skill-set information as he searches for work.
