If its light rust, rub some ultra fine steel wool over the rust spots and they should disappear. The heavier the rust, the less fine the steel wool should be, and then smooth it all together with the ultrafine steel wool.

Use some paint like rustoleum to prevent futher rusting, and make sure you dont expose the bike to more moisture when storing.

A little WD40 and some aluminum foil will take rust off of steel or even chrome without scratching. Just crumple up a ball of aluminum foil, spray a little WD40 on the metal and rub.

Sand blast it, strip the bike and sand it . you want to go to bare metal, but if you simply want rust gone at your local automotive store there is a product that ONLY adheres to RUST (do not know name but tell them it only adheres to rust they should know) slap that on there. rust rust because of oxidation as long as rust is exposed to this it will RUST Goood luck
