Temp lighting

When installing temp lighting in a wooden structure is it permissible to use 12/2 NM cable with temp light sockets and cages as a means of temp lighting? If so how are the splices
in the cable to be made where joining two pieces of cable together? Is it permitted to splice with wire nuts if they are
properly taped as to prevent the wire nuts from coming loose and falling off?
