an air conditioner is blowing the hot air removed from the house or area. so that is why it is hot to stand behind it.

to answer your question is your fan broken? is your AC not working right?

What type of unit window orstand alone type on the ground . if its a window unit from which end is it sucking air inside or outside if its your outside unit and its sucking air down thru the top your fan rotation is backward . if its your window unit and its sucking air from the out side possibly the same reson.
