Actually I think Vietnam also is trying to address human overpopulation, but indeed you are correct in linking overpopulation to the problem of climate change as a result of human activity, and NO it is not right for the west to criticize China this way.

Let us look at the full picture - there really 2 other points to make.

One. The west is over consuming. Basically the people in the USA are leading the planet in terms of consumption and waste per person. The average American requires over 5 x the resources as the average Chinese person, and well more than people in many other nations. They consume more, waste more, and so forth.

Two. The west is basically fueling the factories in countries like China. Sure China laws are far lower in terms of air pollution but it is the fact that people in the west want cheap goods that keep these factories open. If people from the west stopped buying "Made in China" items then the factories would not be polluting the skies.

It is easy to point fingers at other people in other nations an forget our own role.

Yes. They are addressing overpopulation because they need to. It is a problem for them. However in some places like China they chose money over the environment. As a result the air quality is really bad. It is like getting an old car that pollutes a lot to save money in the short term. They have the technology to reduce the pollution but they choose not to. They focused on growth and money and people are paying for it with their lives.

I saw a show a while ago. A person was in a country that was becoming more developed. He was asking about the increase in pollution. They said countries like the United States polluted a lot so why should they be any different. Instead of starting out using current technology to reduce pollution they choose to use old technology that polluted a lot. Instead of learning from other countries they used them as an excuse to become a major polluter.

The west is always criticizing someone, why should China be any different? The west even criticizes itself and all its polititians and the people who live here. And it is getting worse every year. Does the term "ugly American' mean anything to you? How do you think we got that name? And, have you looked at the Chinese population numbers? And has anyone looked at the history of 'climate change'? NOTHING ever stays the same forever and ever. We are due for a climate change. We are due for a land mass change too. (I wonder what country we can blame that on?)

But, the west is not the only critical ones. It seems to me EVERYONE is criticizing EVERYONE ELSE for doing something someone does not agree with. Whether it is right or not never seems to matter to them. Maybe it is just human nature to complain about things all the time.

Don't get me wrong. I love my country. But I am not blind to what man is doing to her either. We REALLY need a lot more women on Capitol Hill to keep those rabble rousers in line!
