Child Support

My son makes $182.00 per week and pays $195.00 per week in support. We are paying his rent so he still has a home. How can the state of ME do this and what can he do?

Well, typically the support is calculated on their income, (about 12% for one child) so if it is calculated wrong, then see if you can have them refigure it at Child Support Services.

Child support is calulated on income, as Jodi said. If he did not fill out his financial statement & turn it in to child support, then they do their own caluations.

It sounds as if he needs to have his child support adjusted. In most states the maximum they can take is 30% of your paycheck as parents need to be able to live as well. He needs to contact child support services to have his payments refigured.

The only other thing I can think of is if they filed the order w/the assumption he was purposely working for less than he should....like taking a less paying job because he didn't want to pay that much. Or .... he didn't file a response and they went off age and the preumptive amount a person that age would/should make.

That doesn't sound right. they had to do the calculations wrong. i would have him go back to the courts and ask them to redo the calculations to figure out how much he should be paying.
