Exempt vs. non exempt property

Exempt property examples are homestead property, automobiles, household furnishings, jewelry up to a certain value, implements, professional tools, appliances, apparel, books, animals, musical instruments, unmatured life insurance, social security benefits, unemployment compensation, public assistance or veterans benefits, pension, profit sharing, IRAs, etc.

Non-exempt property examples typically includes valuable clothing (furs), electronic equipment, expensive car and most or part of equity in your home.
