Grandparent rights

I found out my 18 year old daughtr is pregnant in the State or CT. I live in FL. The father has physically and vervally abused her and stll is. They are both involved in drugs -- although I think my daughter is not taking them now while she is pregnant. She doesn't have a high school diploma, no job - he works part time - the rest either buying or selling drugs. He has threatened to kill her and others before. I am not afaid of him, however, I don't believe that baby should be raised like that. They don't have money, food, job, even a bed I believe they sleep on an air mattress on the floor. What are my rights, and do I do anything before the child is born I am afraid if I do, they will take off and I won't be able to find them.

You should talk to someone about gaining custody or adopting the child.
Here's a resource for Florida: http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/programs.shtml
Connecticut: http://www.ct.gov/dss/site/default.asp

I agree, that wouldn't be a good environment to live in.

What about offering for the daughter to move in with you in FL, assuming she cleans up her act?

Maybe at this point an intervention is a good idea. If he does drugs I can almost guarantee she does them too. Especially if she is out there with no family. What kind of drugs are they involved with? If this is an abusive relationship, the sooner and more discreetly you can get her out of it, the better.

In the state of Fl grandparents have no rights pertaining to visitation and so forth. In my opinion your best bet is to offer (like said prev.) your daughter to live with you. If that does not work then like also said before quietly and discreetly take the proper steps to gain custody of the child. That is not the best enviroment to raise a child. If she is doing drugs while preg. the court can order her into some sort of "rehab" center until the birth of the child.

I guess I should be more detailed. My daughter has had a problem for 2 years. I did take her to live with me and got therapy, but she lied her way through and continued to find the drugs, stolen from us (me and her dad), the whole scenario. I told her we would support her and get her help and did the 'intervention" she walked out... that is why she is where she is now -- but now with a baby..

You gave me the resources to help with the investigation... which is exactly what I needed. My daughter had runaway from us to this guy before, we got her back and tried to do the intervention; counselng, etc... didnt work, she left again... so thank you for the info..
