How to get sole custody to allow international travel

I am a single mother . My son is 2 years old. His father hasn't seen him since he was 6 months old. My family lives in Canada and in order for me to take my son with me I have to present a notarized note from his father. The father said he is no longer going to give me any notes and wants nothing to do with either of us ever again and for me to figure out how to travel with him if it's that important. What kind of legal formality do I need to go through and how long does it typically take? I live in Ohio.

You should check out the laws there. you may be able to strip him of his rights completely. after not seeing his child in 18mos, it could be considered neglect. the only catch to that is if he has no rights, then he doesnt have to pay child support to you anymore. if he is behind though, he will still owe for the time he had rights.

Thanks for the response. he has never paid anything and i don't want anything so the support part shouldn't be an issue or may even help.
