I have been fighting for daughter since i was 17 but my child support is to high

My childs mother was 18 and i was 17 when we had our daughter they begged me to just leave them alone, that i would not have to pay child support or anything.Well I didnt have the best childhood but i was raised good enough to know what the right thing to do was so I faught for my rights and got put on a visitation schedule that the judge came up with himself.I was working as a land surveyer making $6.15 an hr and made my childsupport $355.00 a month.Well now I'm working basically for child support unable to get ahead and it was my turn to claim on income tax (I get even she gets odd)But she beat me to and claimed her and I was needing that $ bad I was 18 and trying to get ahead in life with no help.I pretty much gave up and quit paying,working,caring.etc.Made some bad choices and went to prison now I'm 25 12,000 behind and they are going suspend my license but I have continued to pay $405.00 month since my release on dec.17.2007 Please someone instruct me on any route I can take to get my payments reduced or If the mother agreed could we work it out between us and get the state out of it.We were young but we have come to a place in our lives that we can talk.
