I left my kids with parents until I could provide a stable home. Now that I can, my parents are refusing to give them back. How can I get them back?

I did sign a paper stating this was to be a temporary situation and they could have the kids medically treated. The paper was not notorized; nor have I went to court. My parents claim a judge granted them custody. Could they mean guardianship? And if so do I still have any parental rights?

If they would have been granted custody, you would have had to sign court papers, signing your children over to them, even for a temporary placement. Ask them for the proof of it, ask in writing and if possible send it to them so they have to sign for the letter to be received, also send a written request for your children to be returned to you on "X" date (give them like 2 weeks) be sure to keep dated copies of all paperwork that you send. If there are no legal paperwork, and they still refuse to return the children, I would suggest that you talk to a lawyer and file paperwork at your local court house to legally get the children back. Please don't go to their house and demand them, it will make thing worse for you in the long run, just do everything in writing. That way you have proof of what you want and will have it for court if it goes that far. Good luck to you!

Yes I agree with tmboring. They can't take away your parental rights and not inform you. If you want your children back, you can go to the county court and file for custody. When the hearing comes, the judge will hear both side and make a ruling accordingly. It takes a lot for a judge to keep children away from their biological parents. You will need to prove that you have a stable life, job, home, etc.

Good luck!
