I live in AZ and am looking into sole custody of my son. His father and I are not married so what are my rights?

I am just looking into child custody cause I would like to move out of state in the next year, but do not see my son's father and I staying together since he is choosing drugs (opiates) over his family. I heard you need to get full custody to make it the best for the child and easier to move at least in my situation. I will still let him see him as long as he is sober, but my interest are the best for my son. I want him to have his father but not at the risk of my son being in danger. I don't trust him since he is an addict and we have lots of issues now, but he needs to choose what he wants on his own and I fear that is going to be the other. So, I need to get informed on child custody cause his father told me that if and when we split he will never give me sole custody cause he fears he will never see his son, but that is the complete opposite. Please help!
