I'm married to a woman that has 2 kids from a previous relationship, neither one of them have established custody of the kids, do i have any rights to them as i am married to her

The kids father is an alcoholic and a drug user, constantly in and out of jail and i don't think the kids should be around him, they barely know him as it is one child is 2 the other is 3 and they know me as their father I've been in their lives since they were 10 months and 1 year. my wife and i have a son together he is 1 now and i don't want him around the druggie. i was wondering if there is something i can do to keep them away from their low life druggie father.

1. she could go to the courts and establish sole custody of those kids so they will always be with you and your wife.

2. you could also adopt the children from him, removing any and all legal ties he has to the children. this is something that all 3 of you would need to agree and sign on.
