I want full, or joint physical custody. What are my chances?

My ex and I split up after I came home at 3am or so to another man sitting with her on my couch. We have a child in common; unfortunately and fortunately we weren't ever married. A week later she had assaulted me while a friend of mine and I were moving my stuff out. I called the police, they believed her sob story, and the police made me leave. After arriving at my friends because the city police would do nothing, we took pictures of my injuries. The next day I had found she had filed a PPO against me, I then went to the court house and did the same, and included the pics. For 3 weeks she denied me visitation with our son. When we went for the PPO hearing she was caught in 3 lies by the judge, and the judge told her it would be in her best interests to let me see our son, for if she did not, he assured her he would when we went for the child support hearing she had filed for as well. I live in Michigan where I lived before we had gotten together, she lives in Indiana in a town 20 mins. away. I want to file for custody, but I want to know my chances as she has four other children, all by different men, and she became engaged to the man that was on my couch only 2 wks. after we split up. She only had two jobs for the two years we were together, and neither did she last a month. I am a junior studying Architecture with a 3.81 gpa, she just finished her freshman year for massage therapy, she has a 1.87 gpa I did most of her school work and can prove it, what are my chances?

Well it is hard to get custody away from the mother and being in two different sates don't help much. You may have good reason to be concerned about your child, but it is up to the judge and custody battles can cost you lots of money. You can file for custody but you would need to file in the state where the child is.
