Is there anyway I could get child support without the father having visitation rights? We live in different states and he has had no contact with them in over 2yrs.

I live in Texas with my 3yr old twin boys. The father lives in Alabama. We were never married and the kids and I moved away from Alabama when they were 6 months old. The father last saw them when they were 9 months old. He hasnt had any contact since then. I just filed for child support thru the state of Texas and was wondering how visitations will work? Is that abandonment on the fathers part? Is there anyway I could get child support with out the father having visitation rights? The children are so young and have no idea who he is. I have made many attempts to contact the father to get him involved with his children but no luck.

Child support and visitation are 2 different cases and they each would be handled differently. if you file for support, it has nothing to do with visitation and he would have to be the one to file for visitation, you would file for support. Good luck.

I understand that child support and visitation are two different cases. Is it possible that a judge will grant a father visitation rights even if they dont know who he is and he lives in a different state? The father last had contact with his children over 2 years ago when they were 9 months old. Is that considered abandonment?
