What are the required specifics for obtaining joint child custody and possible sole custody in New Hanover County without the use of a lawyer? I am a father seeking custody for my 3 month old daughter.

To get legal custody, file a civil action for custody. The court will consider all factors surrounding the children's life too see if it is in the child's best interest that custody will be placed with you.

If communication is good between you and the childs mother discuss the terms you want. As long as you can agree and get in writing possible notorized. No lawyer involved
