Joint Custody

I have 22 mo. old grandtwins whose parents are separated. My daughter & son in law are sharing joint custody. I am so very concerned about my grandchildren and this constant back & forth between homes. How will this affect them? I know I raised my children in the "stone" ages, but the idea of joint custody, when you are talking about babies horrifys me. Any input is greatly appreciated.
