How do I obtain joint custody of my 6 month old son?

MY sons mother & I were never married. We are both 21 yrs. old & the child support dept. gave her custody. I wanted custody. She decides when and for how long I see my son, now I heard she is moving to another state about 8-10 hrs. away. She has another son {older} by someone else & is pregnant again by another guy {whose she`s not with} how can I get joint custody of my son? I`d be happy with full custody but that will never happen! Please help.
Thanks, Timmy

YOU CAN'T TAKE A 6 MONTH OLD BAY AWAY FROM HIS BIRTH MOTHER UNLESS YOU CAN PROVE SHE IS UNFIT. MEANING SHE IS ON DRUGS OR SHE NEGLECTS OR MIS TREATS THE CHILD. THE BABY NEEDS THE MOTHER NURTHRING

I don't understand why the mother should get full custody of the child when the father isn't an absent father and wants to be in then child's life. I can see if the father didn't want to be in the child's life then as a parent you do what you have to do for your child. It's always in the best interest of the child to have both parents in their lives. The child was conceived by two parents not one, so why shouldn't the father have custody too. I believe that both of the parents should have joint custody and make it a better stiuation for the child. The best situation is to have both parents in the child's life and both parents have equal rights to the child. I don't think it's fair for one parent to be able to decide everything that happens with the child when the other parent wants to be involved too. Society isn't giving credit to the father's who want to be in their children's lives. Not all father's want to abandon their kids. Why make it hard for a father to be their for his child, it's his child too. A child needs his father just as much as it needs it's mother. No one needs the other more or less. That's why kids are acting out the way they are today from lack of fathers. Go ahead and let this father help raise THEIR child. It should be joint custody!

You need custody order in place. Thats true full custody is hard to get depending on circumstances. If the 2 of you can talk and come to an agreement get something in writing and notorized, if not will need ot go to court.
