Unless, her righst have been terminated, you need her permission also, in writing. I am well aware that is not what you wanted to hear. You have no legal right to deprive her of her children until a court allows you to do so. Espeially if the purpose is to secrete the children from her. You could find yourself in jail if she pursues this kidnapping. If she doesn't care a wit, then getting her written permission should not be a problem.
Why doesn't the father simply keep them in the home? They are still married as you said "wife", rather than ex wife.
A third party cannot just take off with children, no matter how well intentioned.
Since the natural father is in the home, he should be able to get her written permission. If the children are in danger from the mother, the father needs to get a protective order and prevent her access, follow the law. While he is getting an ex parte protection order for the children, he should ask the court for permission to remove the children from the state and place them temporarily with you. Cross the T's and dot I's or he might lose custody and you might find yourself will legal entanglements.
This type of activity must be done within the law and with evidence, being addicted is not necessarily a reason to without children from their mother, that is for a court to decide, not to take the law into your own hands, the mother is entitled to due process.
If there is or has been drug use around the chidlren, and you have proof, you should have her arrested , by filing a police report for child endangerment.
