Joint Physical Custody in Michigan

I am going through a divorce, and I do not want my soon to be ex husband to have joint physical custody of our 3 children. I am too afraid of what it will do to them emotionally after reading all of the studies on one week on and one week off. How often does a judge really rule for joint physical? I am all for joint legal custody, and I am not wanting him to be out of the childrens lives..I just feel that the children need stability, not to be thrown here there and everywhere. I guess I just need reassurance that the judge doesn't just award joint physical because the father wants it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
