Joint custody but i want to move out of state....

My kids father and i, have gone to court and made visitation agreements, i am the custodial parent and he has visitation rights. We have no problems between us he picks up the kids every tuesday & thursday evening and every other weekend he has visitations. No problem what so ever he is apart of the kids lives which i think is awesome! But now business at work is slow pay is low prices are high here in california more than ever. And i want to move out of state where the rest of my family is and i can have a better job to provide my kids with a better life style. Okay so the questions i want to ask is will this process take long to do? Or even possible? And would it cost extra money? I need to find out asap. I don't want to stay stuck here, living miserabely thank you!

You would need to file a motion with the court to get the orignal custody order changed. It will be up to the judge to decide and alot of it has to do with your ex,if he does not show up in court you have a better chance then if he does. Once you file the papers it could take a month or two. The courts can do a few different things, they can let you go and let your ex get them for the whole summer,or they can give your ex custody and you summers. What ever the outcom the court will do what is in the best interest of the child. If you can get your ex to agree to your going, and he puts it in writing that would be the best way to go. .
