Custody

How can a grandparent get custody of a grandchild? my daughter never married my grandsons father and since he has a criminal background her lawyer says the father will never get custody. i feel he needs a stable environment since she is only 20 and is bi-polar.

Grnadparents don't have any legal rights of their grandchildren. However if the mother were to agree to sign for you to file for legal guardianship then you could file. If the child is in danger and you are really concerned because of her being bi-polar that could give you a just cause to ask for custody,in some circumstances like that you might be able to file. I would consult with an attorney first.
