Is it possible in VA to get sole custody if the spouse is abusive and a flight risk?

I live in the state of Virginia, my spouse assaulted me and I have a protective order in place to keep him from me and our 5 year old son. I have filed for custody. I wish to obtain sole custody of my son, however my spouse was my means of support. Also I fear he will leave the country with our child if given visitation. I do work but my current job doesnt cover all expenses.

If you file for divorce and you have a protective order against your spounce be sure and tell the judge and ask for sole custody, when you go to court the judge will order child support, and a restaining order is usally good up to six months so the judge would probarly not award any visitations for the father until the restraining order is no longer in effect. Also tell the judge when you go to court that your concerned that your husband may try to leave the country with the child.

This was the only answer I got back, which was good but unfortunately in the state of Virginia they dont take in to consideration domestic violence when allowing visitation-:(
