Split Custody

My ex and I have split custody of our son. Currently he is with his father Wed. to Sat. morning - with me from Sat morning to Wed am. One weekend a month he has him for a full weekeend.

In addition to the above we rotate holidays and have 10 additional vacation days a year each with our son.

Our son is getting older now and we want to do week on week off scenario with him. What happens to the holdiays and additional vacation days at this point? In my opinion the 10 vacation days should just be eliminated, but still the rotation of the holidays could muddy the week on week off schedule.

Help advise. Ally

First, how old is the child? I know everyone wants to spend time with the child, but there comes a time that the parents need to step back and look at what the child is going through. Split custody does work for some people if the child is young enough, but as a child gets older, it gets harder on a child. Think about it, they are spending most of lives "moving" from place to place! Doing it every week! pack- unpack- pack-unpack. He just gets settled and it's time to "move" again! If you live close enough to each other and the child is old enough to make choices, have primary residence with one parent and have open visitation to the other, maybe spending a night or 2 during the week if the child wants, and leave your visitation the way it stands now, it sounds like you and your ex can talk about things, so there will be know need to go to court, as long as you both agree on something. Just think of the child! Good luck!
