Child custody case and visitation rights

My question is my wife has a 3 yr old son whos father only comes to see him 2 times a year we recently went to court and the judge gave him 4hrs for the next two days 1 overnight stay within 30 days and after a series of overnight stays he is able to take him for 5 days the father has a history of checking himself into mental hospitals however we dont have any medical records to prove it so my question is how can we stop the judges verdict and obtain soul custody and as fear harm may come to the child?

You need to have proof. Is there someone on his side of the family that can testify in court to that, preferably a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister)? Try to find out who his doctor is/was, the hospital he was in, something. Let them know that he wants to take the child for an extended period of time unsupervised. You would like paperwork stating that he will be of harm or no harm to the child. See what comes of that.
