I understand anyone can file for visitation if they have an interest in the child. What I don't understand is the weight of a pre-existing relationship between the person seeking visitation and the child in the decision to grant visitation? I'm hoping I won't be summonded to court given my father never built a relationship with my child. I really don't want to relive the years of abuse this man has inflicted on me and other family members or spend money that would be best used to care for my child to fight him in court. He's angry at me because I tried to talk about problems in our relationship (he showed up after years unexpectantly on my porch). He never mentioned my child, nor did his 3rd wife in the 10 page letter she wrote me after I told my dad we have problems. He became angry that I brought up some things he did to me, telling me my mom is evil and brainwashed me. I guess he thought I should just jump and be happy when he shows up one day. Then I received a letter from an attorney representing my dad for grandparent visitation. I'm wondering what factors hold the most weight in court for a grandparent to be granted visitation?
