What do I need to do to get full custody?

I dated a guy for about 3 months which resulted in my now 2-year-old daughter. I tried to involve him for the pregnancy and her first year, but I was tired of calling and no response. I've never asked for a penny. I recently got engaged and when word got out to him, he flipped out and aparently is fighting for joint custody. He didn't come see her in the hospital, come to her birthday parties, he haas only seen her once when I went to his house. She has a disorder that requires her to take medication everyday! I can not put her life in his hands. If he files for custody what are the chances he will get it. What can I do to protect my daughter.

He also mispelled her first name, didn't know her middle name and had the wrong birthday on the court papers. PLEASE HELP!

He won't based on past history for now, though he'll be able to get visitation rights. You should keep records of these events and start a log, keeping track of all events. You should start building a record of past issues. The court will act in the best interest of the child, not what one or both parents may want. Documenting everything is very important.

Unfortunatly, if he presses the issue, the court will give him some rights as her biological father. Most likely they will order a modified and supervised visitation scheduale in the begining, so that the child can become accustom to him. I would seek to open what is called a voluntary case with your county social services agency as they can help you get legal councel, be there to provide support to you in this trying time and provide supervision if necessary and help you to keep records. They can in times like this be you and your childs best advocate. By opening a voluntary case, you are saying I am willing to do the best thing for my child, no matter what it takes. They will be looking at you, make no mistake, but most of all, they will be looking at him. They can also help you get the child support your daughter deserves from him.
