Get a really good lawyer. I know that seems obvious but do some research and find out who's going to be a good advocate for you - not just somebody looking to take your money and tell you what you want to hear.

Depends on the state you live in. However, here in Colorado you have just as much right to your children as the other parent provided you are not a convicted felon, abondoned your kids or don't have a place for them to live. Even if you were the person to blame for the dissolution of the marriage, it doesn't matter - you have the same rights. You should check the website of whichever county you live in and you can find info on proceedures. Good luck. I split time with my ex 50/50 and we both end up getting a break and tend to spend more time with our son when he's withus.
