Correct grammar use for the verb after using two peoples names

I am trying to find the rule for using and with two names and the verb after, i.e.: Kathy and Dan resides (or reside) in Los Angeles. My word program will make the verb plural on some names and singular on others. I want to know what is correct.
thank you!

The correct verb is "reside," since it refers to two people: "they reside" in wherever. There shouldn't be an issue between grammar checkers here - toss out the one that suggests a singular verb.

They reside. Kathy and Dan reside in California.

Reside is the correct answer when you use the word "and." The word "and" joins the two together making them plural, therefore use the word reside.
