Electric Conduit

How is the size of the conduit related to the internal and external diameter of the conduit? If we say that a nominal conduit size is 1.5 inch, how do we derive the average extenal dianeter and the internal diameter?

Electrical conduit size is measured from inside diameter. Which is to say, inside wall to inside wall.
