This is a less common method but works the same
Factor each number as far as possible
45=3 x 3 x 5
54=3 x 3 x 2 x 3
Pull out the factors that are the same.
That would be 3 ,3
3x3=9 which is the gcf.
The next problem;
12=2x2x3
78=13x2x3
Which numbers are the same?
2 and 3
2x3=6
6 is the gcf
The next problem;
45=3x3x5
75=5x3x5
The same numbers in both is 3 and 5
3x5=15
15 is the gcf.
