Real silver CAN and does tarnish. In pool water that can be caused by the chemicals mixed into the water to kill germs and fungus. If you have a question about the authenticity of the ring, you need to take that up with the person or business that sold it to you. You will have to prove they advertised the ring as solid silver and it turned out not to be. The mere fact that it tarnished is not proof since silver tarnishes and that is why people polish their silver.
