What message do you want to send? Awareness of a problem relating to women? Brave women in history? How women can help a community?

I was involved in many women's issues committees in College and minored in women's studies so I'd love to help you some up with an idea...

Susan B Anthony and her crusade for women to have the rights that they have now in this country. The right to vote or to participate as candidates in out elections. If it were not for Susan B Anthony starting these crusades women our country would not have the same rights as men.

That's a great start to get them thinking. You just need a theme to bring it all together. It sounds like you are looking for issues concerning modern women in an urban community.

Things could include, poverty, violence, inequality.

Try to construct an outline like:

I. Introduction (this is a documentary on issues facing women today)

II. Problems for women in your community (just ideas - insert three concerns your girls have)

a. Issues of women in poverty in our community (show images and talk about the problems)

b. Issues of violence against women in our community

c. Issues of inequality for women in your community

III. Talk about a woman who empowered an urban community of women like Ella Baker, Clara Barton (here is a list of notable women http://www.infoplease.com/spot/whmbios3.html) just find a woman who helped with the issues you are addressing.

IV. Conclusion

a. How you can learn and be active like the women above to make a difference in your community

b. Brainstorm solutions for each of the problems that you have introduced earlier

c. End with a powerful quote from a woman in history that will tie your project together
