How do you set up Cable, VCR, DVD, and Playstation to surround sound system?

I have recently purchased a DVD player with surround sound and want to hook it up to all my other components. I have an older TV and have it hooked up to an RV Modulator. Everything else is hooked into an input box with 4 inputs and 1 output. The cable is gong from the wall to the cable box and from the cable box to the RV modulator. The three prong is going from the cable box to the input box #1. I have the three prong from the VCR going out to the input box #2. I have the playstation going to #3. Since the surround sound is connected to the DVD player, I have the sound going out of the input box to the DVD player. The video for the DVD player is going out to the input #4. The cable is working fine, but I can't get any of the other components to show up. I also can only get the surround sound with the DVD player. I have been wracking my brains trying to fix this and I am out of patience. Can you help me?

Buy a new TV. The TV will have the necessary plugs.
