It's tough to choose a favorite James Bond movie, because all or most of them are really good. I think I own every single one except for Moonraker, and that's only because I haven't been able to find it at a reasonable price.

I think my favorite of all time, however, has to be a toss-up between Goldfinger and Goldeneye. I loved Goldfinger because it introduced Q and all his gadgetry that proved to be one of the mot fun parts of the entire series. I loved Goldeneye because it introduced Pierce Brosnan whom I had been looking forward to seeing as James Bond since his days as Remington Steele.

A question near and dear to my heart. (I asked the same question, which is still unawarded.)

First, who's the best Bond? Sean Connery originated the role and still defines it. Pierce Brosnan is a close second for me. I've never understood why so many discount Timothy Dalton. Although he only made two, there were both quite good. George Lazenby only appeared in one, and he was a little thuggish. Roger Moore almost redefined the role as suave and more than a little jokey since he did so many films, but ultimately, he ranks below the others. I didn't expect the first blond Bond to fit my sensibility, but Daniel Craig has done a good job. Ranking: Connery is first, Brosnan is second, the other four tie for third.

Second, which film is best? It would be easy to choose one of the Connery films, especially Goldfinger, since they establish the formula. I don't really care about "rebooting the series" as the press gushes each time a new actor takes on the role or a new director is brought in. For best pure entertainment value, with all the elements properly balanced, my favorite is GoldenEye. The tone of the jokes is pretty well modulated, and it has one of the best soundtracks. The secondary villain (Xenia Onatopp -- great name) was a hoot, as well as the Russian rogue General Ourumov. Two images stick with me: the tank driving briefly with the pegasus on top and flaming face of the train after it hit the tank in the tunnel.

Thanks for the in-depth answer. I was also partial to Goldeneye before I saw Casino Royale. That movie was fantastic. Sadly, Quantum of Solace was a huge disappointment.
