Copyright about having lyrics on a screen

We are having a state conference for brain injury (non-profit) that includes a dance social one of the nights, with approximately 125 people attending.

We would like to play songs with lyrics that speak to those with brain injury. Therefore we are downloading songs from the internet to play that night, along with their lyrics on a screen for sing-along purposes.

Are any copyright laws being violated here? In our opinion, we aren't restricting sales to these musicians. In a way, we are promoting them by this kind of exposure.

As far as I know, sharing the files is the problem. Whatever tracks you download, burn them as a data image on a CD, and then delete them from your HDD IMMEDIATELY. Don't get caught with them on your hard drive being shared with others.
